FND FrieNDs is a charity based in the South West of England promoting awareness and support for those who have a diagnosis of Functional Neurological Disorder, as well as helping to encourage greater understanding within the medical profession of this fairly common but little understood condition.

This website is intended to provide information and support for those who have been given a diagnosis of FND and their friends, family and carers.

FND FrieNDS covers the South West of England and runs meet-ups, craft and holistic therapy sessions and other events in Gloucester, Bristol, Weston-Super-Mare, Yeovil, Salisbury, Taunton, Devon and Cornwall.

Functional Neurological Disorder (FND) is an altered motor or sensory function, which affects how the signals/messages from the brain are sent and received to allow normal functioning of the body.  There are many reasons why people experience FND including illness, physical or mental trauma or an operation. There is a lot of work to do to understand more about this condition.  FND Friends are advocates for improving support for the cause and actively work with healthcare and medical professionals to broaden understanding and education.

If you have been diagnosed with FND, you are not alone!

A diagnosis of FND can be bewildering, scary, and isolating. The actual process of diagnosis that you may have, or are going through can also be the cause of worry, depression and frustration.

FND FrieNDs aims to show you that you are not alone and that there are many people with similar issues. FND FrieNDs have a network of support groups across the South West, where people, families and carers can meet, share experiences and ideas but most of all, meet like-minded people in a safe, non-judgemental and friendly atmosphere. If you have been diagnosed with FND, you may also be interested in joining our Facebook support group.

Testimonials

I am so glad to have found FND FrieNDs, they are really helpful and supportive.

Becky Conaby

As I have said many times, that FND Friends were my lifesavers and kept me from drowning in those early days, and I know they are there whenever I need help, support or just company. Xx

Cathy Healy

My consultant neurologist was very interested in the leaflet that FND Friends gave me. He is very impressed, so great job folks, pat on the back for supporting us!

Sarah Elizabeth Sowden

For me! I don’t talk much or offer to many opinions up on here but I do find a lot of the content highly useful in my daily life living with FND symptoms. I just take everything in became most of it can relate too and usually others come up with good suggestions in this support group.

FND Friends has been essential for me, if it was
not for this group, Mandy and Bradley I really
don't think I would be here. The advice, positive
attitudes and friendly chat has pulled me together
and got my fight back. I have learnt how to deal with
my bad periods, and to really enjoy the good ones.
Without FND Friends I would not of been able
to do this.

John

Fnd friends is essential for me; the
mutual support is so important for this condition
as there is so little help from the NHS.
Treatment services seem non existent in the south west,
and knowledge about FND so variable and often
scant in medical professionals. The patient groups are the
only real support and input that we can rely on.
Fnd friends provides an amazing service offering support
and practical help, regular meetings and therapeutic events.
Knowing others are going through this and out there
to offer help and listen is so important.

Thankyou Mandy for all you do!
